Spicy Black Bean Burgers


  • 1 can (14 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 red onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Hamburger buns, lettuce, tomato, and avocado (optional toppings)


  1. Mash black beans in a bowl with a fork or potato masher.
  2. Add breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, cumin, chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Form mixture into patties (about 1/2 cup each).
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until crispy.
  5. Serve on hamburger buns with desired toppings.
